Aztec Layers Pure Cotton Blanket
Sofa size or bed size?
Two sizes, and the difference is not subtle — one is a throw, the other covers a mattress. Pure cotton has weight and drape, so the larger size feels substantially bigger in the hand than the numbers suggest.
| Choose | If this sounds like you |
|---|---|
| 150 × 200 cm | One person under it on the sofa, folded over an armchair, or across the foot of a bed as a band of pattern. The size you leave out all year. |
| 200 × 230 cm | Covering a queen or king properly, two people sharing on the couch, or a spare room where this is the whole bedding scheme. |
Cotton shrinks a little on the first wash. Between the two, the larger one is the safer regret.
Where does a geometric pattern like this belong?
Layered geometry is a strong pattern, and it does not share a room well with other strong patterns. Give it a plain surface and it becomes the thing that pulls the room together. Put it next to a busy rug and both lose.
| Works on | Avoid |
|---|---|
| Plain sofas in neutral or dark tones, leather, white or linen bedding, timber bed frames, rooms with lots of plain wall | A patterned rug directly beneath it, striped upholstery, or a bed that already has a printed duvet cover |
Cotton care is easy: cool machine wash on gentle with like colours, tumble low, no bleach. The step people skip is separating it for the first wash or two. Woven geometrics carry several strong colours side by side, and the first cycle is when any loose dye comes off — wash it alone the first time and you will never think about it again.
The blanket that makes a plain sofa look like it was chosen, not inherited.
Neutral furniture is sensible and it is also the reason a lot of living rooms look like a showroom nobody has moved into yet. Grey couch, grey rug, grey cushions that came with the couch. One patterned cotton blanket across the back changes the read of the entire room in the time it takes to unfold it — not because it is loud, but because it is the first thing in the space with a pattern that somebody clearly picked on purpose. It is the cheapest possible way to make a room look decided.

Pure cotton, and what that changes day to day
Synthetic throws are warm immediately and then get too warm, because nothing moves through them. They also build static, which is how you end up getting a small shock off the sofa in winter. Cotton behaves differently — it breathes, so the temperature under it settles rather than climbing, and it stays comfortable in a warm room instead of becoming something you have to push off.
The bigger difference is over years. Cotton takes washing. This is a blanket that can go through the machine every few weeks without pilling into a fuzzy mess, which matters enormously for something that lives on a sofa where food, pets and people all land on it. It also gets softer as the fibres relax, so a well-used one feels better than a new one — the opposite of what happens to a fleece.
The two sizes in a room
- 150 × 200 cm — Throw scale. Folds into thirds neatly over a sofa arm, and the geometry still reads when it is folded.
- 200 × 230 cm — Bed scale. Covers a queen with a drop on each side, or a king across the sleeping surface.
