Which size do I actually need?

Muslin is a layering blanket, not a comforter, so sizing up is rarely a mistake. The only real question is whether it lives on one person, on a bed, or over the back of a sofa where it gets dragged around by everybody.

Choose If this sounds like you
150 × 200 cm One person, one armchair. You want something to pull over your legs while you read, and you want to be able to fold it small enough to stuff in a basket afterwards.
200 × 230 cm It's going on a bed you share, and you'd like it to hang over the sides rather than sitting on top like a placemat. Also the size that survives two people on a sofa without a tug-of-war.
230 × 250 cm A big bed, or you want the drop to reach the floor so the base of the frame disappears. Also the pick if a dog has opinions about where they sleep.

Plenty of people keep the smallest one downstairs and a larger one upstairs.

Will it stay soft, or go stiff after a few washes?

Muslin does the opposite of most bedding — it gets better with washing. The loose gauze weave relaxes each cycle, which is why the crinkle deepens instead of flattening out.

    Do this Avoid this
Cool or warm machine wash on a gentle cycle, on its own or with other soft cottons Washing it with zips, hooks or anything with a buckle — open weave and hardware do not mix
Tumble low and pull it out slightly damp, or line dry High heat, which tightens the weave and shrinks the drape you paid for
Shake it out hard before folding Fabric softener and bleach — softener coats the cotton and kills the breathability

The step people skip: giving it a proper snap before it goes on the bed. Two seconds of that and the layers separate, which is what makes muslin breathe instead of sitting flat like a sheet.

The blanket that's warm at midnight and not sweaty at three in the morning.

Most blankets make you choose. Either you're cold with a sheet or you're kicking a comforter onto the floor at 3am and dragging it back an hour later. Muslin sits in between: multiple loose-woven cotton layers that trap a little air for warmth, with enough gap in the weave that heat keeps moving instead of building up under you. It's the reason it works in July and still works in October.

Why the gauze weave decides everything

Muslin is woven loose on purpose, then layered. That construction is the whole product. A tight weave gives you a flat, heavy blanket that traps heat in one place; the gauze layers here move independently, so the blanket falls around a shoulder or a knee instead of tenting over it. It's also why the crinkled surface never needs ironing — the texture is structural, not a finish that washes off.

The reversible cotton build means there's no wrong side facing up. Throw it over the end of a bed in a hurry and it still looks deliberate, which matters more than it sounds when you're making a bed at seven in the morning.

    • 150 × 200 cm — reads as a throw. Folded in thirds over an armchair or the arm of a sofa, it looks intentional rather than like laundry that didn't make it upstairs.
    • 200 × 230 cm — the everyday bed size. Enough width that it drapes past the mattress edge on both sides, so the bed looks softened rather than capped.
    • 230 × 250 cm — full coverage with a long drop. This is the one that makes a bed look like the photo, with fabric pooling slightly at the sides instead of pulling tight.

    What You're Getting

    • One muslin reversible cotton blanket in your chosen size — 150 × 200 cm, 200 × 230 cm, or 230 × 250 cm
    • Layered gauze cotton construction that traps warmth without sealing heat in
    • Reversible — both faces are finished, so it never lands the wrong way up
    • Crinkled texture that comes from the weave itself, so it doesn't flatten out over time
    • Softens with every wash rather than stiffening
    • Machine washable on a gentle cycle, cool or warm
    • Tumble dry low or line dry; skip fabric softener and bleach
    • Folds down small enough for a basket or the foot of a bed
    • Works year-round — alone in summer, layered under a comforter in winter
