Navy Leaf or Corn Bloom?

The jacquard weave is identical in both — the colourway decides whether the throw cools a room down or warms it up. That's usually settled by what's already in the room rather than by which you prefer in isolation.

Jacquard has floats on the back — will it snag?

Woven jacquard is more robust than it looks, but the reverse face carries the pattern's loose threads and that's where damage starts. A few habits keep it intact indefinitely.

The step people skip: laying it face down to dry. The pattern face gets the sun otherwise, and on the Navy Leaf in particular that will show along the top fold before the rest of it moves at all.

Everyone has owned the throw that looked great for one summer. Printed palm designs are cheap to make and they photograph beautifully, and then the first few washes take the edges off the leaves, the folds go pale, and by the following year it's a blurry green rectangle you keep meaning to replace. A jacquard throw is the answer to that specific disappointment: the palm design isn't applied to the cloth, it is the cloth.

Jacquard means the pattern is structural

On a jacquard loom, each warp thread is controlled individually, so the design is created by which threads sit on the surface at each point rather than by anything printed on afterwards. Two consequences follow. First, the pattern can't wash off, wear off or crack along a fold, because removing it would mean unpicking the fabric. Second, you get a genuine reverse image on the back — the same palm design in inverted tones, which means there's no wrong side to worry about when you drape it.

It also changes how the throw feels. Jacquard has a raised, dimensional surface where the pattern floats sit proud of the ground weave, so you can trace the palms with a hand. That texture is what gives the throw its weight and its drape; it falls in defined folds over a sofa arm rather than skating off, and it looks substantial folded on a shelf rather than limp.
