Which colour should I get?

Choose	If this sounds like you
Beige, White or Grey	You have a light stone or laminate counter and you want the mat to vanish into it. Grey is the most forgiving of the three between rinses.

Where can I actually put it?

The counter beside the sink, inside the sink basin as a base protector, under an existing dish rack to catch the drips, a shelf in the pantry, or lining a drawer.	A lit burner, the inside of an oven, cutting directly on it with a knife, and folding it away still wet with the ridged faces pressed together.

To clean it: rinse under the tap, or lay it flat and wipe with hot soapy water. Because the surface is non-porous there is nothing for grime to soak into — it comes off rather than staining.

The step people skip is drying it before folding. Fold a wet mat and the two ridged faces trap water between them for days. Shake it, hang it over the tap for ten minutes, then fold. That single habit is the difference between a mat that stays fresh and one that goes off.

Why the ridges are the entire design

A flat absorbent mat takes water in and then holds it against the base of whatever is standing on it. That is why a glass on a folded tea towel still has a wet ring under it an hour later, and why plates dried that way come away faintly damp.

Raised ridges solve it by lifting everything off the surface. A mug rim, the base of a pan and the edge of a plate all sit on the tops of the ridges, and the channels between them carry water away and let air pass underneath. The dish dries from both faces at once instead of sitting in its own puddle. Because the material is non-porous rather than absorbent, nothing soaks in, so it does not go sour the way fabric mats do and there is nothing for mineral scale to bond into. And it is flexible — you can roll it, fold it into a drawer, or lay it into the curve of a sink base, none of which a rigid rack will do.
