Which size — and why are some listed in inches and some in cm?

How do I wash sherpa without wrecking the pile?

Sherpa does not fail from washing — it fails from heat. Get the temperature right and the fluffy side stays fluffy; get it wrong once and the pile mats into hard little clumps that never come back.

The step people skip: the shake. Sherpa comes out of the dryer looking sad and slightly flat, and everyone assumes it is ruined. Thirty seconds of shaking it out by two corners brings the loft straight back.

Two surfaces doing two different jobs

This is a two-faced blanket, and that is the whole design argument. One side is a waffle weave — a grid of raised squares with air pockets between them. The other is sherpa, the dense curled pile that traps warm air against you. Waffle on its own is textured but not especially warm. Sherpa on its own is warm but can feel heavy and airless. Together, the waffle face gives the blanket structure and a surface that does not stick to itself, and the sherpa face does the insulating.

The practical version: flip it sherpa-down when you want to be properly warm, and waffle-down when the room is already heated and you just want covering. It also means the blanket looks like a textile rather than a fleece when it is folded over the arm of a sofa, because the waffle side is the one on show.

Blush — soft warm pink. Reads as neutral rather than girlish in a room with cream walls and wooden floors.
Ebony — true black. The one to buy if you have a dog, a dark sofa, or both.
Crimson — deep saturated red. Loud on a plain sofa in the best way, and the obvious winter choice.
Golden — warm mustard yellow. Lifts a grey or navy sofa faster than any cushion will.
