Two sizes — is this for one person or for the sofa?

The difference is nearly two feet of length, and that is entirely a question of whether your feet need to be covered. Everything else about the two is identical.

125 × 150 cm	Sitting upright — an armchair, a desk, the passenger seat on a long drive. Nearly square, so it wraps round your shoulders without a tail dragging behind you.
150 × 200 cm	Lying down. Full length for an adult stretched out on a sofa, or laid across the end of a double bed with a bit of drop each side.

If someone in the house is over six foot, the longer one is the only one that will not cause an argument.

Which way up does a reversible blanket go?

Either way — that is the whole point. Both faces are finished, so there is no backing to hide and no wrong side facing the room when it lands in a heap.

Where this matters	Where it does not
Over the back of a sofa, folded on an ottoman, thrown across a bed, or anywhere the blanket is visible when nobody is using it. A single-sided throw always shows its underside eventually, and that is the moment a room looks untidy.	Under a duvet or in the car, where nobody sees it. If it is going straight into a boot or a camping bag, buy on size alone and ignore this box.

Wash cool with like colours, detergent only, and dry it low or lay it flat. The step people skip: get it out of the machine promptly. Left compressed and damp in a drum for a few hours, a soft blanket sets creases into both faces and they take a full wash cycle to come out again.

Think about how a throw actually lives. It gets pulled off the sofa back, used for two hours, then dumped — half on the cushion, half on the floor, one corner folded over. With most blankets you can see the cheap face from the doorway, and the room reads as messy even though nothing is out of place. A blanket finished on both sides never has that problem: however it lands, the surface facing the room is the surface that is meant to be seen. Two finished faces means the edge has to be right

Building a blanket with a good side and a hidden side is easy: the join, the seam allowance and every ugly detail get pushed to the back where nobody looks. Make both faces presentable and there is nowhere to put those things, so the edge has to be resolved properly all the way round. That is worth knowing because the edge is where throws fail. A rolled or bound edge that is finished cleanly holds the two faces flat against each other through the wash; a bad one curls, ripples, or lets one face shrink at a different rate to the other until the whole blanket sits wavy on the sofa. It is the least interesting part of the product and the part that decides whether it still looks right in two years.

Which colour

Deep Blue — rich navy-leaning blue. It gives a grey or cream sofa an actual colour to sit against, and it works just as well in a bedroom as in a living room.
Dark Grey — charcoal, the invisible option. Pick it for a house with dogs, kids, or a habit of eating dinner on the couch, because nothing shows on it and it goes with every sofa ever made.
