Which size oval, and does the shape change how I measure?

Yes — measure the widest points, because an oval gives back the corners a rectangle would have taken. The listed sizes are the full span at the widest part, so an oval mat tucks into a tight bathroom more easily than the numbers suggest.

Does plush pile survive the washing machine?

Why oval, and not another rectangle
