Which size do I need?

Pick by what you want the blanket to do, not by the size of your mattress. A blanket that only just covers the top of a bed slides off the first time someone rolls over, so size up whenever you are between two.

Will the pink fade, and how do I wash it?

Cotton holds a soft dye like this well, but heat is what kills the colour, not water. Everything below is really one instruction: keep the temperature down at both ends.

Expect a soft crinkle after the first wash. That is the cotton relaxing, not damage, and it is why the blanket feels better in month three than it does out of the bag. The step people skip is shaking it out hard before it dries — do that and the weave settles flat instead of drying into set-in creases.

Pink is the hardest colour to buy for a bedroom. Most of what is available lands somewhere between children's bedding and a hotel that gave up in 2003, and the ones that get the tone right are usually made from something you can only dry clean. Why cotton is the right call for a blanket you use daily

Polyester throws feel warm immediately and then get clammy, because the fibre does not move moisture anywhere. That is fine for twenty minutes on a sofa and unpleasant for eight hours in a bed. Cotton breathes, so body heat that would otherwise pool under a synthetic blanket passes through, which is why the same blanket can be comfortable in October and still tolerable in April.

It also matters for how the thing ages. Synthetic pile pills where it rubs — the corner you grip, the edge that catches on the bed frame — and once it pills it never comes back. Woven cotton softens instead. The trade-off is honest: it creases more, and it takes longer to dry on the line. In exchange you get a blanket that is genuinely better after a year than it was on day one.
