Cotton robes go stiff for exactly one reason: they are washed hot and dried hot, over and over, in a load full of heavy items. Treat this one like a garment rather than like laundry and it stays soft indefinitely.

Wash cool or warm with similar colours. Hang it on a broad hanger by the shoulders to dry, not folded over a thin rail. Untie the belt before it goes in the machine.	Hot washes and hot tumble drying, which shrink cotton and harden it. Bleach on a coloured robe. Washing it with zips and hooks that catch the sleeves.
