Opulent Flora Reversible Towel
Is 79 × 160 cm the towel size I'm after?
There is one Size, and it is the large end of a bath towel. Worth checking it against your rail and your habits before you order, because that dimension changes how it behaves.
| Right for you if | Look elsewhere if |
|---|---|
| You want a towel you can wrap fully around you and still tuck, not one you hold shut with a hand. | You want hand towels or a face cloth — this is a full body towel and nothing smaller. |
| You have a proper towel rail or a heated rail with room for a folded 79 cm width. | Your only drying spot is a narrow hook behind a door. A towel this size will not dry properly bunched on a hook. |
| You want one towel that also works at the pool or the beach without looking like beach kit. | You are matching an existing set exactly — this is a statement piece, not a filler. |
Two of these covers a couple with one in the wash, which is the honest minimum for any towel you like enough to use daily.
How do I stop a patterned towel going flat and grey?
Towels are ruined by softener and by the first wash, in that order.
| Do | Don't |
|---|---|
| Wash it on its own the first time, warm, before it ever touches your skin. | Throw it straight in with white sheets. A saturated print always gives up some colour on wash one. |
| Use detergent only, and slightly less than you think. | Fabric softener. It coats the fibres in a waxy film, and a towel that cannot absorb water is just a decorative rectangle. |
| Line dry, or tumble low and take it out slightly damp. | Over-drying on high heat, which makes the pile brittle and scratchy and dulls the print. |
The bit everybody forgets: hang it spread out, not folded in three over a narrow rail. A towel folded on a rail dries from the outside in and the inner fold stays damp all day — that damp fold is where the musty smell comes from, not the towel itself.
A towel worth leaving on the rail when people come over.
Bathroom towels have a way of becoming invisible and then becoming embarrassing. There is the good set you bought three years ago, now thin and slightly grey in one corner, and the mismatched survivors of two house moves. You do not think about them until someone else is about to use your bathroom, and then you find yourself hiding the ones with the pulled loops. The Opulent Flora is the opposite of a survivor: it is the one you hang deliberately, and it is why the bathroom stops needing an apology.

Two faces, and they are not the same towel
Reversible on a towel is not a cosmetic trick. Each side carries the floral pattern differently — one face leads with the pattern, the other reads quieter and more tonal — so a single towel gives you two looks depending on which way it goes over the rail. That is more useful than it sounds when the bathroom scheme changes, or when you want the loud side on display for guests and the calm side facing you every morning.
The floral itself is doing practical work too. Solid pale towels show every mascara smudge, every fake-tan streak, and every splash of the tinted moisturiser you wiped off in a hurry. A dense floral pattern absorbs all of that visually, so the towel gets a fortnight of real use and still looks like something rather than a rag with a stain on it.
How to use both sides
- Pattern side out — folded lengthways over the rail with the floral facing the door. This is the guest-bathroom setup; the towel becomes the colour in a room that is otherwise white tile.
- Tonal side out — the quieter face forward for a bathroom that already has a lot going on, or when you just want the rail to look calm.
- Rolled — both faces show at the ends, which is the version to use on a shelf or in a basket rather than on a rail.
- Away from the bathroom — at 79 × 160 cm it works at the pool or on a lounger, and reversible means it lies pattern-up whichever way you throw it down.
