Eight colours — how do I narrow it down?

They all carry the same Paris weave, so none of them is a riskier pattern than another. The only question is what the blanket is doing in the room: disappearing, warming, or standing slightly apart.

Choose If this sounds like you
Ivory Cloud, Sandstone, Cocoa Stone You want the blanket to belong to the sofa rather than sit on top of it. These are the ones you buy when the room is already decided and you don't want to renegotiate it.
Slate Grey, Storm Blue The room is pale and slightly weightless, and needs one darker element to stop everything floating. Also the practical pick where the blanket gets daily handling.
Sage Leaf, Lilac Mist, Blush Rose You want actual colour, but soft — a bedroom where the walls are white and nothing else is going to provide it.

If you genuinely can't choose, Ivory Cloud goes with the most rooms and Slate Grey shows the least.

Which of the four sizes, and will fleece pill?

Size first: 100 × 150 cm is a lap blanket, 200 × 230 cm is a bed cover, and the two in between are sofa sizes. On pilling — fleece pills when it's washed hot and dried hot, and barely at all when it isn't.

    Works well Avoid
Cold wash on a gentle cycle, blanket on its own Hot water, which is the main cause of fleece matting and pilling
Low tumble or line drying High heat, which can flatten the pile permanently and it won't recover
Detergent only, measured lightly Fabric softener, which builds up in the pile and makes fleece feel greasy

The step people skip: washing it away from towels. Fleece is a magnet for lint, and one load with a towel will leave you picking fluff out of the weave for weeks.

The warmth of a fleece throw, without the look of one.

Fleece has a reputation problem, and it's earned. Most fleece blankets are a flat sheet of synthetic pile in a colour picked by nobody, and they read as camping gear the moment they enter a living room — which is why they end up in the car boot or the spare room. The compromise people make is to buy something that looks right and then be cold. The Paris Weave sidesteps that: jacquard-woven texture on the face, fleece warmth underneath it.

Paris Weave Jacquard Fleece Blanket in use on a sofa

The jacquard face is what stops it looking like a fleece

A plain fleece has a uniform surface, and a uniform surface under lamplight is what your eye reads as cheap — there's no shadow, no variation, nothing for the light to do. The Paris weave gives the face a jacquard structure, so the pattern is created by the weave itself and catches light differently across the blanket. Folded over a chair arm, it produces actual shadow lines. That single difference is why it looks like a throw rather than a fleece.

Underneath, it does the fleece job: it warms up fast, holds heat with very little weight, and doesn't need shaking out or fluffing to work. That's a genuine advantage over a heavy woven blanket if you want warmth on a sofa without something so substantial that you can't get out from under it easily. It also dries quickly, which matters when a blanket is in constant use and can't be out of action for a day after every wash.

    • Sage Leaf — soft muted green. Sits well with timber and houseplants without going olive.
    • Lilac Mist — pale cool purple. The one for a bedroom where grey feels too severe.
    • Storm Blue — mid-depth blue with grey in it, so it doesn't read as nautical.
    • Slate Grey — the workhorse. Goes with everything, and shows the least between washes.
    • Sandstone — warm neutral, the one that keeps a beige-and-timber room consistent.
    • Ivory Cloud — the lightest. Best on a dark sofa where it reads as a distinct pale layer.
    • Cocoa Stone — deep warm brown, good against leather and brass where grey looks cold.
    • Blush Rose — muted pink, soft enough to work as a neutral in a light room.
    • 100 × 150 cm — lap size. A chair, a desk, or the end of a bed.
    • 150 × 200 cm — the standard sofa throw, one person fully covered.
    • 180 × 200 cm — wider, for two people sharing or a deep-seated sofa.
    • 200 × 230 cm — bed scale for a full or queen, with a drop at each side.

    • Jacquard-woven face that catches light and casts shadow, instead of a flat fleece surface
    • Fleece warmth — heats up quickly and holds it without much weight on you
    • Dries fast, so a blanket in daily use isn't out of action for a day after a wash
