Which size do I actually need?

Sherpa blankets get bought too small far more often than too big. The question isn't the bed size — it's how many people end up under it.

Choose If this sounds like you
100 × 150 cm One person, one armchair. The one you keep folded on the reading chair or in the car boot for the sideline of a cold game.
150 × 200 cm You want to lie down under it on the couch with your feet still covered, or drape it across the end of a bed.
200 × 230 cm Two people share it and neither wants to negotiate. Also the only one that covers a larger bed properly rather than sitting on top like a runner.

If two of you watch things together, the middle size is where the arguments start.

Will the sherpa side turn into a matted mess?

Sherpa keeps its loft as long as it never meets high heat. That's genuinely the whole rule — everything else is minor.

    Works well Avoid
Cold wash, gentle cycle, on its own Hot water, which permanently clumps the sherpa curl
Air drying, or tumble on no heat A hot dryer, an iron, or drying it on a radiator
Plain liquid detergent Fabric softener and bleach, which both coat and stiffen the pile
Shaking it out hard once dry Washing it with velcro, zips or anything with a hook

The step people skip: give it a proper shake and a minute over the back of a chair when it comes out. That's what puts the loft back — not the wash cycle.

Two fabrics, one blanket: smooth where you want it, deep where you need it.

Most throws force a choice. A flat woven one looks tidy folded over the sofa arm but does nothing at ten at night in a cold room. A thick fluffy one is warm but looks like a dog bed the moment anyone comes over. A sherpa blanket is built from both at once — a smooth plush face on one side and a deep curled sherpa pile on the other. Folded, you see the neat side. Under it, you get the other one.

Why sherpa is warm without being heavy

Sherpa is a curled, high-loft pile made to imitate the inside of a shearling coat. The curl is the point: it holds a thick layer of still air against you, and still air is what actually insulates. A dense woven blanket has to get heavy before it traps the same amount, which is why old wool blankets pin you to the couch. This one warms up in under a minute and you can still move your legs under it.

The second consequence is that it warms up fast in a cold room. You aren't waiting for the blanket to reach your temperature the way you do with a thin cotton throw — the pile starts holding heat as soon as you're under it. The trade-off is that sherpa doesn't like heat from the outside. Keep it away from dryers and radiators and the loft stays.

    • Ivory Cream — the one that disappears into a neutral room. Best on a pale sofa where a strong colour would take over.
    • Berry Blue — the deepest shade here, and the most forgiving in a room where the blanket gets dragged around by kids.
    • Matcha — a soft, greyed green. Sits well with timber, linen and plants without going full sage.
    • Latte — warm mid-brown. The choice if your room is beige and cream and you want depth rather than another neutral.
    • Peach Pink — gentle rather than bright, and the one that reads warmest on camera and in real life.
    • 100 × 150 cm, 150 × 200 cm and 200 × 230 cm — the same construction in three footprints: one chair, one couch, or one bed with two people on it.
