Measure your animal curled up, not stretched out. A cave bed is used by animals that sleep in a ball, and one sized for their stretched length just feels draughty to them.

Why polar fleece is the right lining for this

Polar fleece is a brushed synthetic pile, and it does three things a woven fabric doesn't. It holds a layer of still air against the animal, which is what keeps a small body warm without needing a thick, heavy bed. It doesn't hold moisture, so damp paws and the occasional accident don't leave the inside cold and sour the way cotton wadding does.
