Stainless Steel Chopping Board
Small or Medium?
Measure your clear bench space before you choose. The Medium is a genuinely large board — that's the point of it, but it needs somewhere to live.
| Size | Best for |
|---|---|
| Small 40 × 30 cm (40 × 30 cm) |
Everyday prep. Vegetables, herbs, a chicken breast, sandwich duty. Fits a standard counter with room to work around it, and slides into a cupboard easily. |
| Medium 50 × 40 cm (50 × 40 cm) |
Full-meal prep. Carving a roast, rolling dough, breaking down a whole chicken, or prepping four components at once without shuffling things around. |
If you cook for more than two people regularly, take the Medium. The most common complaint about any chopping board is that it's too small.
Steel, wood, or plastic?
Worth thinking about properly, because you only do it once:
| Board | How it ends |
|---|---|
| Plastic | Knife grooves fill with bacteria you can't scrub out. Warps in the dishwasher. Replaced every year or two. |
| Wood | Beautiful, but needs oiling, can't go in the dishwasher, and splits eventually if it gets soaked. |
| 304 stainless | Non-porous, so nothing gets in. Dishwasher every day without warping. It doesn't end — that's the whole argument. |
On your knives: the surface is smooth rather than abrasive, so it won't chip an edge. It will dull a blade faster than end-grain timber over years of use — if you own a Japanese carbon knife you love, keep a wooden board for that one and use this for everything else.
Every serious home cook eventually makes this switch.
Not because plastic breaks, though it does, and not because wood warps, though it will. It's because 304-grade stainless steel just makes sense once you've thought about it clearly. No pores. No grooves. Nowhere for bacteria to live. One board, and then you stop buying boards.

The L-Shaped Hem Is the Part You'll Notice
A steel board that slides on the benchtop would be worse than useless. This one has a non-slip L-shaped hem that catches the edge of the counter and grips — so it stays put while you're working, and you're not chasing it mid-chop with a knife in your hand.
Everything else is what stainless does well. Stains don't stick. Onion and garlic don't linger — a rinse is genuinely all it takes. It goes in the dishwasher every day of its life and comes out flat. And it looks like something out of a commercial kitchen sitting on your bench, which is not the reason to buy it, but it doesn't hurt.
