A gauze robe is meant to hang loose, so the size question is really about how much overlap you want at the front. Both sizes tie with the same wrap; L simply gives you more fabric to cross over and a longer sleeve.

Gauze is a light, open weave. It is more robust than it looks, but it does not like heat.

The step people skip: hanging it on a wide hanger while still damp. Gauze dries fast and sets in whatever shape it dried in, so a thin wire hanger leaves two permanent shoulder points.

The standard bathrobe problem is that it is a towel with sleeves. Heavy, slow to dry, and by August it lives on the back of the door untouched. A cotton gauze robe solves the season problem — the open weave means it is light enough to wear over damp skin in summer without sticking, and layers over pyjamas in winter without turning the bedroom into a sauna. It comes off the hook in July as often as it does in January.

What the gauze weave actually does

Cotton gauze is woven loose and then allowed to crinkle rather than being pressed flat. Two things follow from that. The first is airflow: there is space between the threads, so moisture leaves rather than sitting against your skin, which is why the robe does not go clammy the way a terry one does. The second is that it never needs ironing — the crinkle is deliberate texture, so the robe looks the same pulled off a hook as it does fresh off the line.

It also gets better. Gauze softens noticeably over the first few washes as the weave relaxes, and the retro colorway settles into something slightly chalkier and more lived-in than it starts.

Grey Blue — a muted, dusty blue that leans grey in low light. Reads as adult and slightly vintage, and does not look out of place hanging on the back of a bathroom door in plain sight.
Pink — the softer, warmer option. Chalky rather than bright, so it sits closer to a faded seventies pink than anything sugary.
