Long and narrow, or wide enough to cover the whole bed?

These two sizes are different objects, not big and small versions of the same thing. One is a runner you lay across the bed. The other is a bedspread you sleep under. Pick by what you want it doing at 11pm.

Cotton and a busy print — how does it hold up to washing?

Cotton is the easy part. The print and the edges are what you protect. Wash cool, dry gently, and paisley stays paisley.
