Which size, and why are there gaps in the run?

Sizes are listed as Women's and Men's, and each runs M, XL, 3XL — there's no L or 2XL in between. That matters: the steps are wide, so don't split the difference in your head. Pick the one you'd be comfortable in over pyjamas.

Choose If this sounds like you
Women: M or Men: M You take a small or medium and you want the robe close enough to move around the house in without stepping on it.
Women: XL or Men: XL You're a large or above, or you're a medium who wants it worn over clothes on a cold morning. Between M and XL, take XL.
Women: 3XL or Men: 3XL You want generous coverage and deep front overlap, with nothing pulling when you sit down.

Nobody has ever sent a sherpa robe back for being too roomy.

Will the sherpa go flat and pilled?

Only if it meets heat. Sherpa keeps you warm because of the loft in its pile — air held in the fibres. High heat in a dryer melts the tips of those fibres, they clump, and the robe goes from fluffy to matted in a single bad cycle. Nothing brings it back after that.

    Do Avoid
Cold gentle wash, belt tied so it doesn't wrap round the drum Washing it with towels — sherpa collects lint like a magnet
Tumble dry on low, or hang dry on a wide hanger Any hot dryer setting, which permanently mats the pile
Shaking it out while damp to lift the pile Fabric softener and ironing, both of which flatten sherpa

The step people skip: hanging it on a wide hanger rather than a hook. A robe hung by its loop on a door hook for a year develops a permanent dent in the back of the neck.

The five minutes after a shower stop being the coldest part of the day.

Every house has the same gap in it. You get out of the shower in a warm bathroom, and then you have to cross a cold hallway to a cold bedroom to find clothes, usually while still slightly damp. A towelling robe does not solve this, because towelling is designed to hold water, which is the opposite of holding heat. A sherpa robe does solve it — you put it on and the cold hallway stops being an event.

Sherpa is a warmth material, not an absorbency one

It's worth being clear about what this robe is for, because it changes whether you'll love it. Towelling robes are built from loops that pull water off you and hold it — excellent for drying, which is also why they feel clammy for the next twenty minutes and take all day to dry on a rail. Sherpa works the other way. Its lofted pile traps air rather than water, so it warms you almost immediately and stays dry to the touch. Practically: towel off first, then put this on. Do it in that order and it's the warmest thing you own. Do it the other way round and you'll wonder why it isn't drying you.

    Which colour

    • Yellow — the bright one, and the one that's easy to spot on a hook in a dim bedroom. Reads as warm and cheerful rather than subtle; not the choice if you want the robe to disappear.
    • Navy — dark, plain and the most forgiving of everything a robe encounters at breakfast. If you want it to look like clothing rather than sleepwear, this is it.
    • Grey Blue — muted, cool, in between the two. The one people pick when they want something calmer than navy but not pale.
    • Mint — soft pale green. Looks best in a light bathroom and is the most spa-adjacent of the four, which is either exactly what you want or exactly what you don't.
