Will my boards and trays actually fit the slots?
The slots are open-ended and open-topped, so thickness is the only limit — not length, not height. A board can overhang the frame in every direction and still sit securely.

Loading it takes no thought: slide each board down into its own slot, thickest at the back. Because every item is separated by a wire divider, you lift out the one you want without moving the other three.
The step people skip is drying the boards before they go in. A wet board stood in a rack drips onto the counter and, worse, holds the moisture along its bottom edge — which is exactly where timber boards start to split. Wipe the edge, then rack it.

Chopping boards are stored the worst way of any object in a kitchen: stacked flat, in a cupboard, in an order determined by whichever one you washed last. So getting the small one means lifting the big timber one and the baking tray off the top of it, and putting the tray somewhere while you do, and then rebuilding the stack afterwards. The alternative is worse — boards leaned against the tiles behind the counter, sliding down slowly, trapping a wet strip of counter underneath them that never dries.

Why the open wire frame is the right build for this job
A solid-sided board holder looks tidier in a photo and is worse in a kitchen.
