Is this going on a bed, or on the sofa?

Neither size is wrong — they just get used differently. The smaller one is a blanket you wrap around yourself. The larger one is a blanket that covers a bed and still hangs over the sides.

How do I stop faux fur going crunchy?

Heat is the enemy, not water. Faux fur fibres are fine and long, and they behave beautifully until they get hot — then they curl and set, and no amount of brushing brings them back. Wash it cold and it stays silky for years.

The step people skip is the brush-out. Once it is dry, run your fingers or a wide-tooth comb through the pile in one direction. It takes a minute and it is the difference between a blanket that looks new and one that looks slept on.

Faux fur and fleece are good at opposite things.
