Is this going on a bed, or on the sofa?

Neither size is wrong — they just get used differently. The smaller one is a blanket you wrap around yourself. The larger one is a blanket that covers a bed and still hangs over the sides.

Choose If this sounds like you
180 × 200 cm You want the blanket that lives on the end of the sofa, gets pulled over one adult, and goes back over the arm afterwards. Also the right size for a single bed or a spare-room throw.
200 × 230 cm Two people under one blanket without a tug of war, or a top layer on a double bed that still reaches past the mattress edge instead of stopping at the seam.

If the blanket is going anywhere near a shared sofa, the bigger one settles arguments.

How do I stop faux fur going crunchy?

Heat is the enemy, not water. Faux fur fibres are fine and long, and they behave beautifully until they get hot — then they curl and set, and no amount of brushing brings them back. Wash it cold and it stays silky for years.

    Do this Avoid this
Cold wash, gentle cycle, on its own or with soft items only Washing it with towels, jeans or anything with a zip
Air dry over a rail, fur side out Tumble dryer heat, which permanently kinks the pile
Mild detergent, small amount Fabric softener, bleach, or ironing it — all three ruin the nap

The step people skip is the brush-out. Once it is dry, run your fingers or a wide-tooth comb through the pile in one direction. It takes a minute and it is the difference between a blanket that looks new and one that looks slept on.

The blanket that ends the argument about whether the heating goes on.

Every house has one blanket that is genuinely warm and about four that are decorative. The decorative ones get folded over the arm of the chair and the warm one gets fought over nightly, dragged from room to room and eventually never returns to where it was supposed to live. This is the second kind. Faux fur on one face, fleece on the other, and enough weight that you feel it settle over you rather than float.

Why two different faces beat one

Faux fur and fleece are good at opposite things. Long faux fur pile traps a lot of air, which is what makes it feel instantly warm the moment it touches you — but a blanket that is fur on both sides is heavy to handle and slides off a bed. Fleece on the reverse is short, dense and slightly grippy, so it holds position on a sofa cushion and gives you a smoother face to put against bare skin when the fur feels like too much. In practise you end up flipping it depending on the night: fur up when the room is cold and you want the look, fleece up in a warmer room when you just want a layer. It is one blanket doing two jobs, which is why it is the one that goes missing.

    Which colour to pick

    • Cheese White and Light Grey — the pale, quiet pair. Cheese White is a soft off-white rather than a stark one, so it does not fight cream walls; Light Grey is the safest choice in a room where nothing has a strong colour yet.
    • Dark Grey and Coffee — for rooms with dark furniture and for households where a pale blanket would last about a week. Coffee is the warmer of the two and sits well with leather and wood.
    • Matcha Green — the most interesting colour in the range. Soft and slightly dusty rather than bright, and it looks best in a room that already has plants or a rattan something.
    • Light Blue — cool and calm, the one that reads as a bedroom blanket more than a living-room one.
    • Pink and Purple — the two that get chosen for a specific person rather than a specific room. Both are on the soft side rather than the loud side, which is why they still work on an adult bed.
