Which size, before you get to the colour?

Nobody has ever regretted going one size up on a sherpa blanket. The three sizes aren't the same blanket scaled — they're three different jobs. Pick the job first, then pick the colour, because the colour is the easy part.

Does sherpa go flat and matted after a few washes?

It goes flat when it gets cooked, not when it gets washed. Heat is what melts the loops of a sherpa pile into a crust. Wash it cold and dry it slowly and the pile stays open, which is the whole reason you bought it.

The step nearly everyone skips: shake it hard for ten seconds when it comes out of the dryer. Damp sherpa dries in whatever shape you leave it, and a shake is the difference between fluffy and pressed.

Two faces, and why the embossing matters

The floral on this blanket is embossed rather than printed — the pattern is pressed into the pile so it sits as raised and recessed depth instead of ink lying on the surface. That's why it reads as texture from across the room and why it doesn't develop the faded, rubbed patches a printed fleece gets on the fold lines. Flip it and you get the sherpa face: the deep nubbly side that traps air and gets warm within about a minute of being over you. In practise most people run embossed-side-up when the blanket is on display and sherpa-side-in when they're under it.

Champagne Bloom — the warm neutral. Sits quietly on a cream or oatmeal sofa and doesn't fight anything already in the room. Pick it if you don't want the blanket to be the loudest object present.
Mint Whisper — a pale, cool green. Reads fresh rather than sweet, and works in a bedroom with white or pale wood where a warm tone would look heavy.
