Will it fit the fruit you actually buy?

There's one version, so the only real question is whether your citrus sits in the bowl. The press is cut for a standard lemon, which means it covers most of what ends up in a fruit bowl and a couple of things it doesn't.

You mostly juice How this handles it
Lemons What it's built around. Half a lemon sits cut-side down and comes out flat and empty in one squeeze.
Limes Sits lower in the bowl, so you get slightly more travel on the handle. Fine, and much less painful than doing a round of margaritas by hand.
Small oranges and mandarins Workable if they're on the small side. A big navel orange will not close — quarter it or use a reamer.
A grapefruit No. Nothing this size will take a grapefruit, and forcing one is how handles get bent.

If you cook Mexican or Thai often, this lives on the bench rather than in the drawer.

The reason cheap squeezers end up in the bin

It is almost never the hinge. It is the coating. Most budget presses are cast aluminium with a coloured enamel over the top, and citrus juice is acidic enough to work under that enamel until it flakes — into your juice. Stainless steel has nothing on it to come off.

    Fine to do Don't
Leave juice sitting in it while you finish the dressing Force fruit that clearly doesn't fit
Rinse under the tap and stand it on the drainer Use it as a nutcracker, which is how people snap hinges
Put it through the dishwasher Leave pulp dried in the holes for a week
Squeeze straight over the pan, seeds and all Scrub the outside with a wire pad

Realistically the only maintenance is this: rinse it while the pulp is still wet. Dried citrus pulp sets into the perforations like glue and then you're picking at it with a skewer. Ten seconds under the tap after use and it stays as good as the day it arrived.

Every drop out of the lemon, none of the seeds in the pan.

Squeezing a lemon in your fist gets you about half of what's in it, a stinging cut you'd forgotten about, and two pips in the risotto that you'll find later. Then you're fishing around the pan with a spoon. This is a hinged press: half a lemon goes in cut-side down, you close the handles, and the fruit is turned inside out against the perforated bowl. The juice goes through the holes into whatever is underneath, the seeds and the pith stay behind in the shell, and your hands stay dry.

Solid stainless is the whole point

This is one piece of steel per arm with a steel pin through the hinge — no plating, no paint, no coloured coating for acid to creep under. That matters more with citrus than with almost any other food, because lemon juice attacks finishes that survive everything else in your kitchen. It also matters at the hinge, where a squeezer either lives or dies. Cast aluminium hinges develop play, then wobble, then the two arms stop meeting squarely and you're pressing at an angle and getting less out of the fruit each time. Steel keeps its geometry. The handles are long enough to give you real leverage, so you're using the tool's mechanical advantage rather than your grip strength — which is why this works fine for anyone whose hands aren't what they used to be.

    What it's genuinely good for

    • Weeknight cooking — the squeeze of lemon over fish, chicken or greens that a recipe asks for and you usually skip because it means getting the chopping board out again.
    • Dressings and marinades — you can squeeze straight into the bowl or the jar. No strainer, no picking seeds out afterwards.
    • Drinks — limes for margaritas and gin and tonics, done in a fraction of the time and without lime juice in every paper cut you have.
    • Batch juicing — a bag of lemons into a jug for lemonade or for freezing in an ice cube tray, without your forearm giving out halfway.

    What You're Getting

    • One stainless steel lemon squeezer, single piece per arm with a steel hinge pin
    • Perforated pressing bowl that holds back seeds and pith while the juice goes through
    • Uncoated stainless throughout — nothing to chip, flake or discolour under citrus acid
    • Long handles for leverage, so it's the tool doing the work rather than your grip
    • Sized for lemons and limes; small oranges and mandarins work, grapefruit will not
    • Dishwasher safe, or rinse under the tap in a few seconds
    • Flat enough to live in a drawer, good-looking enough to leave on the bench
    • Rinse before the pulp dries — that's the entire care routine
