Waffle Cotton Throw

Most households own the wrong number of blankets. There's a heavy winter one, there's a decorative one nobody is allowed to actually use, and then there's a nine-month gap in between where you either sit on the sofa slightly cold or drag the winter one out and cook. Waffle cotton is the layer that fills that gap. Waffle is a structure, and the structure is what regulates temperature

A waffle weave is built by alternating long floating threads with tight binding points, which pulls the cloth into a grid of raised ridges and recessed square pockets. The pockets are not decoration. Each one is a small air chamber, and that's how a single thin layer of cotton manages to feel warmer than a flat sheet of the same weight — you're wrapped in trapped air, not in bulk.

The difference from a duvet is that these air pockets are open on one side. They hold enough still air to insulate, but body heat and moisture can move out of them rather than accumulating. That's the whole mechanism behind not waking up sweating. A duvet's loft is sealed inside a shell; a waffle's isn't.

Cotton finishes the job. The fibre takes up moisture instead of leaving it against your skin, and unlike synthetic throws it doesn't build static or start pilling on the arm of the sofa. It also does the thing cotton does over time, which is get softer with every wash rather than worse.
