Forest or Sunbeam — and which size?

Both colourways are reversible, so each one is effectively two throws and you can flip whichever face suits the season. The names tell you the pair: one face leads, the other is the quieter reverse.

How does cotton hold up to being used every day?

Cotton is the fibre that improves with washing rather than surviving it — which matters for a throw that gets sat on, spilled on and dragged around. Here is where it works and where it does not.

Wash cool on a gentle cycle with like colours. Skip fabric softener entirely: on cotton it deposits a waxy film that makes the fabric feel slick at first and stiff after a few months. Tumble low or line dry, and reshape it while it is still damp so it dries square.

The step people skip: separating it out for the first wash. Any new dyed cotton releases a little colour on the first cycle — run it on its own once and you never have to think about it again.

One throw that changes character when you turn it over.

The usual problem with a patterned throw is that you get bored of the pattern before you get bored of the throw. It looked right in October and by March it is the loudest thing in a room you now want to feel calm. So it gets folded into the cupboard, and the sofa goes back to being bare, and you start browsing for a new one that will do the same thing in eighteen months.

Reversible means the pattern is woven, not printed

A throw can only be genuinely reversible if the design is built into the weave. Printed fabric has a right side and a wrong side — flip it and you get a faded ghost of the pattern on a grey backing. Here the wheat motif appears on both faces with the two colours swapped, because the same yarns are doing the work from both directions.

That construction also decides how long it looks good. A printed surface wears at the fold lines and along the sofa arm, and the pattern goes patchy exactly where you see it most. Woven colour has nothing to rub off. The throw gets softer, the wheat stays sharp.
